China has dropped COVID quarantine requirements for foreigners. Says it will start reissuing some visas — after nearly three years of border closures.

Beijing has announced traveler no longer require hotel quarantines. With huge number of cases in the country with all the preventive measures on zero Covid the country faces massive increase in early months.

 Chinese citizens can can now travel internationally again without a quarantine next year. International students outside of China who were locked out when China’s borders suddenly closed in early 2020 can now apply for visas and get back in to resume their studies.

Though China has announced the quarantine-free policies for the travel after January 8th, 2023, the Tourist Visa is still suspended. Inbound tourism to China is still not feasible. Now there are three ways for foreigners to enter China:

  • Holding a valid Chinese residence permit for work, study, personal matters, or reunion
  • Holding a diplomatic, service, courtesy, or C visa
  • Holiding valid APEC business cards
  • Applying for a new China visa (the previous visa will not be cancelled) — Z-, M-, R-, X1, Q-, and S-visas now are possible.
